  3. Membership renewal fees are due on 1st July each year. Membership fee for 2016-2017 is $60.

Public and Products Liability Insurance (closed until July 2017)

Members are advised that public and products liability insurance for 2016-2017 was due at the BSSA meeting on 5 July 2016. The 2017-2018 public and products liability insurance will be availablr from July 2017.

Monthly Meetings (first Tuesday of month)
Meeting hall, St Matthews Homes, 67 Bridge Street, Kensington

  • Tuesday 7th February 2017 - starting early at 7pm for "Beginner's Beekeeping Group", a question and answer session before the main meeting at 7.30pm.
    Main meeting: - Topics will include a session by Mark Horwood on how to present your honey for judging and what to look for when judging honey. Please bring along a jar of your honey for this purpose.
  • Tuesday 7th March 2017 - starting early at 7pm for "Beginner's Beekeeping Group", a question and answer session before the main meeting at 7.30pm.
    Main meeting: 1.Bob Beer to talk for 15 mins on a new book he has discovered and to update us on the bee calendar for March,
    2. Guest Speaker John Nairn to speak about our extreme weather conditions.
    3. Grant Gotley to speak about the costs of purchase of new hives for BSSA apairy and asking for more volunteers’ for the sub committee.
  • Tuesday 4th April 2017 - starting early at 7pm for "Beginner's Beekeeping Group", a question and answer session before the main meeting at 7.30pm.
    Main meeting: 1 John Kassebaum PIRSA - Australian Honey Bee Industry Biosecurity Code of Practice, amendment of Livestock Regulations 2013

    3. Crispin Boxhall: Queen marking and dates when he will be doing this, please register with Glenda if you are interested
    4. John Silverblade: Making Mead
  • Tuesday 18th April 2017 - Special Meeting to discuss the Apiary Code of Practice for the Industry. The proposed new laws and regulations will apply to all beekeepers. Starting at 7.30pm at The Rising Sun Hotel, 60 Bridge Street Kensington.
  • Tuesday 2nd May 2017 - starting early at 7pm for "Beginner's Beekeeping Group", a question and answer session before the main meeting at 7.30pm.

    2. Guest Speaker: Karen Montgomery Topic: Insect friendly gardening

Note- There will be no hive field days if the forcast temperature is over 35 degrees.

Practical aspects of beekeeping will be demonstrated on a number of occassions during the year..
